Starbucks has begun growing in the US again after almost three years
of contraction. The coffee chain has announced plans to open about 100
outlets in the US and about 200 worldwide during 2010. Development
plans have been boosted by positive first quarter results in the
present year, which saw the company posting USD241.5 million profits,
compared with USD64.3 million a year earlier. Sales increased 4% to
USD2.72 billion from USD2.62 billion the year earlier, while
same-store sales grew 4%. Troy Alstead, Chief Financial Officer
commented: "We've come a long way in the US."
